It was in church, I was always on the main camera facing the altar, the unit I volunteered in was then called Sight & Sound. So dude had seen me a couple times as he later told me. He dropped a 'greeting card' asking to talk me out on a date, with a follow unit member during the 1st service one faithful sunday-I came for 2nd service that day..
We got acquainted over time and he made his intentions clear. So he would wait for me after service or if I was busy for long, he'd go home, freshen up and come back to see me, we'd sit and share, talk and stuff. This went on for weeks as we got to know each more.
On one of those stay-back-and-share, he share a Bible verse with me that stayed with me. Psalms 15:4c
"He who swears to his own hurt and does not change"
NKJV
He broke it down beautifully, it always comes to mind for me. He was telling me the kind of man that is a man.
Anyways, it came to mind again this morning and I thought to check how a few other translations of the Bible puts it..
“Keep your word even when it costs you..”
MSG
"He keeps his word even to his own disadvantage and does not change it [for his own benefit"
AMP
"They always do what they promise, no matter how much it may cost.
GNT.
" ..who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and does not change their mind"
NIV.
And of course, my dear Yoruba version 😍
"..Ẹniti o bura si ibi ara rẹ̀, ti kò si yipada."
YBCV
So..
Shoutout Ẹniti!
